Welcome and Ratings Explanation

Welcome to slither and squirm! Yet another website for those of you that just can't get enough of movie reviews and opinionated people. Since I don't often venture out to the theaters to view the latest offerings, most of the reviews on this site are for older movies that I've just recently seen. Occasionally I will also review classic movies that I have just re-watched. I always try to write my reviews while the content is still fresh in my disturbed little mind.

I am certainly no cinematic expert, but I do have a great appreciation for the art of cinema and have watched my fair share of movies over the years. I really do see cinema as an art form, and as an artist myself, I appreciate seeing a well-done movie. I hope my comments are somewhat insightful and reflective of my years of studying and appreciating a wide variety of fine art, literature, music, and movies.

Why the name slither and squirm, you ask? I just like the way it sounds, and it's what came to me as I was thinking up a name for my blog. You've got to admit it rolls off the tongue rather nicely.

In keeping with this theme, I've decided to rate all the movies on a skink scale of one to seven. Why seven? Well, why not? Here is a breakdown of what the rankings mean:

- 7 skinks. A classic, masterpiece, or all-time favorite movie.

- 6 skinks. An excellent movie, but not quite "masterpiece" status.

- 5 skinks. A very good movie, but with some shortcomings.

- 4 skinks. A decent move, enjoyable to watch but nothing special.

- 3 skinks. A bit sub-par, but with some redeeming qualities.

- 2 skinks. Beginning to test the limits of tolerance. May cause you to hurt small animals.

- 1 skink. A horrible, idiotic, or completely unwatchable movie.

- 0 skinks. Will cause irreparable damage to your psyche. All those involved should be shot.

I hope you enjoy the site, and I hope my reviews occasionally provide some thought-provoking insights for you. Please feel free to leave your comments as I always enjoy hearing other people's opinions, and I love lively, intelligent discourse. Differences in opinion are most welcome, but please keep any criticism focused on the opinions expressed and not the person giving them. Personal attacks or judgments are not welcome here and will result in a posting ban.

Happy movie watching!
